PFUJ sets up victims fund for media persons

ISLAMABAD, Dec 22: The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) has established a victims fund for extending financial assistance to media persons and their rehabilitation in the wake of increasing incidents of terrorism against media men.
In a statement, issued here on Tuesday, the PFUJ said owing to rampant incidents of terrorism against media persons, it is imperative to evolve a comprehensive strategy to overcome the situation and to take steps for security and protection of media persons.
The statement said since 9/11 as many as 45 journalists had been killed while over 300 injured in terrorist activities and target killings.
Likewise, over 100 families of media persons in Swat and other areas of the NWFP have been dislocated owing to military operation.
According to the PFUJ, the media persons in Pakistan are passing very tough time and were being terrorized by the Taliban and other religious fanatics.
The media-persons who were dislocated killed or injured need compensation and rehabilitation.
The PFUJ has consequently decided to established a victims fund in Islamabad for which an account title: Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) Account No. 25574 National Bank of Pakistan, Co-operate Branch, Super Market, Islamabad, Pakistan has been opened.
The PFUJ has appealed to donor agencies, philanthropists and well to do persons to generously donate towards the PFUJ victim fund.
