Follow up: Cop held for child’s death in custody accused of murder

FAISALABAD: Jhang Bazaar police on Sunday added murder charge to the FIR registered against an assistant sub inspector for a teenager’s death in police custody.

The case against ASI Muhammad Ali, who had been arrested on Saturday, was earlier registered under Section 155-C of the Police Order 2002 (negligence).

The investigation of the case has been assigned to Jhang Bazaar police investigation in-charge Muhammad Afzal.Muhammad Zubair, 14, had died at Allied Hospital on Saturday. Doctors said he was unconscious when the policemen brought him to the hospital. He had been arrested in a sexual assault case on Wednesday. Three others had been arrested on July 22 and sent on a judicial remand on July 24. Father of the deceased had accused the police of torturing him in custody which, he said, had led to his child’s death.
